The larch is a deciduous conifer that grows up to 50 metres in height and grows very quickly in its early years. Larchwood is relatively compact, has bright yellow sapwood and reddish brown heartwood. The annual rings are very distinct since the transition from early to late wood is very marked.
Larch is also very resistant to water contact. This durability is due to the contents of its cells. Larch is used wherever environmental influences necessitate the use of chemical impregnation with other types of wood.
